Water routes: gardens and palaces in southern Spain

In southern Spain, water is not simply a decorative element: it is memory, symbol, and architecture. In cities such as Granada and Seville, the murmur of fountains recalls an aesthetic tradition inherited from the Islamic world, where gardens represented the earthly image of paradise.

In the Alhambra, the pools reflect the sky like a geometric mirror, while the water flows in narrow channels designed with mathematical precision. This is no coincidence: in the Andalusian tradition, the balance between light, shadow, and water creates a space for inner contemplation.

In the Real Alcázar of Seville, the gardens combine Islamic heritage and historical evolution, but retain the essential idea: water as the axis of serenity. For Arab visitors, these spaces are not unfamiliar; they evoke Moroccan riads, Damascene courtyards, and the palatial architecture of centuries past.

Traveling to southern Spain is also a rediscovery of a conception of space where nature is elegantly tamed and the sound of water accompanies the silence.
